He'll be able to live with HIV esp if he caught it early on. It's a life adjustment but definitely manageable. On another note: It's nobody's fault when someone contracts HIV, so I wouldn't call it a "punishment." That's like when fundies call HIV an "affliction," so as to pass judgement on those who get it because of what they think are "lifestyle choices." Just really sensitive to that, so I had to comment.
